When it is time to replace your HVAC system a heat-pump system installation should be on your list of options. Read on to see how a heat pump may deliver the greatest value and convenience for your South Texas home.
What is a Heat Pump?
A central A/C system cools a home using refrigeration principles the same as the refrigerator in your home. It extracts heat energy from inside the home and releases the heat energy outside. This process for cooling is quite efficient especially in climates like South Texas enjoys with no cold weather extremes.
A central heat-pump system operates by the same refrigeration principles as a central A/C. The only difference between a heat pump and A/C is that a heat-pump system uses a reversing valve and few other components to cycle refrigerant in two directions (rather than only one direction), providing a dual-purpose HVAC system for cooling and heating.
Heat Pump or A/C?
The following are some of the advantages of installing a heat-pump system for your home:
- Heat-pump systems offer energy efficient heating during moderate and cooler weather, which we enjoy a lot here in South Texas. Heat-pump heating is a much more efficient means of heating than electric heating, when you consider heat pumps offer up to 400 percent energy output to energy consumed.
- Heat pumps offer automatic switch-over between cooling and heating cycles in one system.
- Unlike a gas furnace, there is no danger of backdrafting of harmful gases into the home with heat-pump systems, since they operate by electricity and not natural gas.
