Give Your Dehumidifier a Hand With These Tips

September 2, 2014 | Blog

If you have invested in a dehumidifier to make your home more comfortable, you might have done a quick setup to get started. Whether you have bought a whole-house or portable model, there are some ways that you can boost the effectiveness of your dehumidifier.

Tips for Boosting Performance

Here are some essential tips for maximizing the performance of your dehumidifier.

  • Air flow is a major factor in the proper function of a portable appliance. It should not be placed against a wall or close to furniture. Take care to avoid covering the intake and exhaust openings located on the appliance.
  • Your home should be closed up when the dehumidifier is turned on. Bringing in air from outside just puts more of a strain on your HVAC and the dehumidifier, so be sure to close windows and doors before switching it on .
  • Make sure that the setting on the appliance is appropriately configured to make your home comfortable. Humidity levels between 30 and 60 percent are generally recommended, but people who are sensitive to molds should keep the humidity in their home between 40 and 50 percent.
  • Problems that are contributing to humidity in your home could make it impossible for an appliance to regulate the humidity effectively. For example, crawlspaces under the home or openings to attic spaces that are not properly sealed could be letting moisture in. Take care of these underlying causes before assuming that your dehumidifier is not working properly.

Great company. Contacted my current AC company to check on my warranty before charging me anything. Saved me a bunch of money and headache if dealing with anything. Would definitely recommend them and use them again.
