When You're Working During the Day, Here Are Ways to Lower Your Energy Costs

October 2, 2014 | Blog

Heating or cooling your home when nobody is there to enjoy it can be a big waste of money. There are many different ways to lower your energy costs while you’re at work that are free or very inexpensive to implement. A few of the different ways to keep your energy costs low while you are away from your home include:

  • Using a programmable thermostat
  • Opening or closing curtains and blinds depending on the season
  • Plugging electronics into a power strip

Programmable Thermostats

Having a programmable thermostat installed is one of the best ways to lower your energy costs during the day. You can set the temperature to a comfortable level when you are home, and let it get cooler or warmer when you are not home, depending on the season. Most programmable thermostats even have weekend settings so you don’t have to worry about adjusting your thermostat’s schedule on Saturdays and Sundays.

Blocking or Opening Windows

In the summer, you can draw curtains and blinds closed in order to help reduce the amount of sunlight that gets into your home when nobody is there. Radiant heat from the sun can have a fairly strong impact on how hot your home gets. When it is a little cooler during the winter, you can keep some south-facing windows free of curtains in order to let more radiant heat into your home.

Using a Power Strip

While turning off a device cuts its power usage considerably, most electronics still draw some electricity as long as they are plugged in. By using a power strip, you can easily switch everything on and off at once when you leave or come home, and it stops power from being drawn while the devices are inactive.

Great Company

Great company. Contacted my current AC company to check on my warranty before charging me anything. Saved me a bunch of money and headache if dealing with anything. Would definitely recommend them and use them again.
