Learn How to Properly Insulate Your Corpus Christi Home

Learn How to Properly Insulate Your Corpus Christi HomeDespite the Corpus Christi area’s mild climate, we still need to keep our homes energy efficient to control utility bills. Knowing how to properly insulate your home will help you make some upgrades that can lower your bills while improving your comfort.

The Attic

Even mildly warm weather can heat up the attic, and without good attic insulation, that heat can come straight into your home. Fortunately, it’s easy to add insulation to this space. An attic in Corpus Christi should have a minimum of an R-30 layer of insulation, which is around 10 inches of fiberglass batts. If your attic has less, you can lay more batts or use a blower machine to install loose-fill insulation.

If your house is on a crawl space to keep your floors warm and reduce moisture infiltration, insulate crawl space walls with rigid foam and line the crawl space floor with a vapor barrier, such as 6 mm polyethylene sheeting.

Air ducts running through these areas should have their joints sealed with mastic, then insulated with duct wrap.  Batt or blown-in insulation should never be used to insulate ductwork because it does not have the proper vapor barrier and will cause condensation.

Walls, Floors and Ceilings

Your walls and floors may also benefit from additional insulation. Loose-fill, blown-in insulation makes it possible to add insulation to these areas without having to tear them apart. To find out if your walls and floors could benefit from more insulation, schedule a home energy audit.

Because a cathedral ceiling can allow a large amount of warm air to pool near the ceiling, this feature requires some special attention. Consider using R-30 high-density, foil-faced fiberglass batts. The foil facing guards against moisture problems and the high-density design allows more efficient insulation to fit into a smaller space.

Great company. Contacted my current AC company to check on my warranty before charging me anything. Saved me a bunch of money and headache if dealing with anything. Would definitely recommend them and use them again.
