Caring for Your Furnace at the End of the Season

February 22, 2018 | Blog

Caring for Your Furnace at the End of the SeasonDue to our mild winters, we use our furnaces in the Coastal Bend area much less than folks in the rest of the country. For that reason, you might think it’s OK to slide on furnace care, particularly at the end of heating season. The fact is, spring is a perfect time to pay your furnace a little attention — maybe even to have an expert check it out, note what might be wearing and on the verge of tearing, and perhaps even evaluate whether you need a replacement. After all, post heating season you may be able to find some really good deals.

Yes, you can just switch over to the cool setting at the end of winter and never give your furnace another thought till the fall. But we’ve got some suggestions for end-of-season furnace care that can help you ensure you’re covered when you need the heat and need it right away.

Change Your Filter

Your HVAC air filter is used by both the heating and cooling system, so change it regularly, no matter what the season. Even though you may have kept your home air tight all winter long, we guarantee you’ve generated a lot of dust and a clean filter will keep that dust out of the furnace. A cleaner furnace purrs along, without generating friction between working parts so that it runs cooler and more efficiently. Further, a clean filter promotes better air flow. A dirty filter can drag your furnace down so that it can’t heat effectively. The change of season is a good time to remember to make a filter change before you switch to air conditioning.

Schedule Maintenance

You’ll need spring maintenance for your air conditioner anyway, so why not have the HVAC tech look at the furnace as well? Ask the tech to look at the heat exchanger and burners, as well as the gas connections. You want to know if any parts need fixing before fall rolls around again.

Great Company

Great company. Contacted my current AC company to check on my warranty before charging me anything. Saved me a bunch of money and headache if dealing with anything. Would definitely recommend them and use them again.
