Do You Need More Insurance for You HVAC?

March 8, 2018 | Blog

Do You Need More Insurance for You HVAC?If you are like the average South Texas homeowner, you run your HVAC system more than 3,400 hours each year — that’s a lot of cooling and heating time. Are you covered in the event of HVAC failures, accidents, or damage caused by natural disasters? Read on to learn about HVAC insurance options and exploring what’s best to keep your HVAC in great shape for your situation.

Homeowners Insurance

First, speak with your homeowners insurance agent. You may currently be covered for damage sustained to your HVAC unit in the event of a house fire, a felled tree, direct lightning strike, and/or from wind-driven storms and flooding due to Mother Nature.

However, standard homeowners insurance policies do not cover HVAC repairs, failures, and normal wear and tear. So, if you are not insured for your HVAC system and other major home systems, explore your next options.

HVAC Insurance

When you speak with your insurance agent, inquire about extending your homeowners insurance to cover your HVAC system. If coverage is available, work with your HVAC contractor to determine if HVAC insurance is a good idea regarding your HVAC system’s age and condition.

Another option is insuring your HVAC system separately from your homeowners policy. There are many insurance companies that offer HVAC system insurance and extended warranty services. Compare combination packages that include other home systems with your HVAC unit to purchasing HVAC à la carte insurance.

Deductibles and Cost Analysis

Common questions to discuss with your HVAC contractor regarding HVAC insurance and warranties are claims deductibles and an HVAC lifetime cost analysis.

  • Does your homeowners insurance cover fire and natural disasters for your HVAC system?
  • What are some common HVAC repairs to expect over the years, and are the repairs worth taking out an insurance policy and paying deductibles?
  • Would a comprehensive HVAC service agreement through your HVAC contractor be more cost effective in preventing HVAC repairs (and the deductibles involved) and, additionally, saving energy?

Each homeowner’s situation and HVAC systems are unique. To discuss your best HVAC insurance options and/or service agreement plans, please contact CCAC today.

Great company. Contacted my current AC company to check on my warranty before charging me anything. Saved me a bunch of money and headache if dealing with anything. Would definitely recommend them and use them again.
