Back-to-School HVAC Maintenance

August 9, 2018 | Blog

Back-to-School HVAC MaintenanceAs kids return to school after a long summer, many homeowners will have more time on their hands to get things done around the house that they’ve been neglecting for months. We suggest that you put HVAC maintenance on your to-do list by starting with these tasks:

Call an HVAC Technician

Every year, you should schedule maintenance on your HVAC system by a qualified professional. This will keep your equipment running more efficiently for a longer period of time. If you didn’t do this at the start of summer, then take the opportunity now.

Clean or Replace the Air Filter

Air filters get clogged up very quickly, especially when your equipment has been running for the entire summer. Depending on the type of air filter that’s used for your system, you should either clean the filter or switch it out for a new one.

Remove Dirt and Debris from the Outdoor Unit

Over the summer, dirt and debris has a tendency to collect in and around your HVAC system’s outdoor unit. This can cause the system to clog up and lose its efficiency, so it’s time to clean it up.

Clean Your Condensate Drain

As your home’s air conditioner cools the air around it, moisture accumulates in the condensate drain. This becomes the perfect breeding ground for mold and will attract insects and other troublesome creatures. The best way to prevent this once you’ve cleaned it out is by pouring a water and bleach solution through the drain twice per year.

Check for Air Leaks and Seal Them

Air leaks account for a loss of efficiency in nearly every home. They cause your HVAC system to work harder, which adds to your energy usage and monthly financial expenditure. You can start by sealing the leaks commonly found around doors and window frames, in addition to tears and holes in your home’s ductwork.

Great company. Contacted my current AC company to check on my warranty before charging me anything. Saved me a bunch of money and headache if dealing with anything. Would definitely recommend them and use them again.
