Attic Safety in Summer

September 4, 2018 | Blog

Attic Safety in SummerSummer is a great time for homeowners to tend to various chores that they’ve been putting off for far too long, and that includes tasks in the attic such as cleaning up, installing insulation, sealing leaks, etc. Working in the attic can sometimes be dangerous, especially with the added heat of the season, so let’s take a look at a few attic safety tips that you should follow:

Work in the Early Morning

As the day goes on, summer will heat up your attic to unbearable levels. You can avoid this by working in the early morning when it’s cooler. The same goes for when you should schedule HVAC maintenance connected to the attic.

Make Sure You Hydrate

Dehydration can lead to severe health issues, so make sure you take plenty of drinking water up to the attic with you. Never assume that you’ll be fine without water until you’ve finished working.

Wear a Personal Fall Arrest System

Falling from an attic can happen at any time. A Personal Fall Arrest System (PFAS) uses an anchor, lanyard, and body harness to keep you in place and secure.

Install Plenty of Lighting

To remain safe in the attic, you must ensure that you have plenty of lighting available at any given time. If space is limited, use an extension cord to take a light up there with you.

Stay on Secure Joists or Rafters

To prevent falls, even with a harness, limit yourself to standing on secure joists or rafters. If you’re stepping on insulation without making sure there’s something beneath it, you could experience an accident.

Watch Out for Possible Critters

Your attic could be filled with various critters from insects and spiders to rodents and birds, so be ready for anything and exercise caution.

To schedule maintenance that involves work in the attic, don’t hesitate to contact the experts at CCAC, who are well versed in attic safety. We currently serve the HVAC needs of the Coastal Bend.

Great Company

Great company. Contacted my current AC company to check on my warranty before charging me anything. Saved me a bunch of money and headache if dealing with anything. Would definitely recommend them and use them again.
