Easter Egg Hunt: Make it Safe for Your Kids and Your Air System

April 18, 2019 | Blog

Easter Egg Hunt: Make it Safe for Your Kids and Your Air SystemEaster egg hunts are a springtime tradition and a fun event for kids and adults alike. If you’re hosting this year’s hunt, you have a lot of planning and preparation to do – like choosing toys and treats, finding the best hiding spots for eggs, and preparing beverages and snacks for the adults to nosh on.

The following tips can help you plan a safe Easter egg hunt for the kids, and your HVAC system, too.

Choose Safe Treats for All Ages

To eliminate safety concerns about real eggs and dyes, use plastic eggs instead and fill them with a variety of age-appropriate treats and toys. Keep in mind that smaller items can be a choking hazard for toddlers and younger kids, so don’t fill eggs with jelly beans, round/hard or foil-wrapped candies, toys that may break into tiny pieces, or small trinkets.

Plan a Hazard-Free Hunt Area

Plan out your hunt area and clear out any possible safety hazards. Outside, lock away hoses, garden tools, and containers of pesticides and fertilizers, then block off the area around your outdoor HVAC unit. Indoors, put away breakables and items that might cause an injury, and put safety covers on electrical outlets.

Safeguard Your Air System

While your top priority is keeping the kids who attend safe from harm, it’s also wise to take steps to ensure your HVAC components don’t suffer any damage. To avoid harmful airflow restrictions or overtaxing your cooling equipment you should:

  • Check that your air vents are fully open and unobstructed
  • Don’t close the doors to any rooms
  • Install a new air filter
  • Raise your usual thermostat setting a few degrees
  • Turn on the ceiling fans in rooms you’ll use to provide extra air movement
  • Remember to shut off the fans and readjust your thermostat setting later on
  • Once everyone has left, check any registers that kids could access to make sure small toys or candy didn’t get dropped into the air ducts

Great company. Contacted my current AC company to check on my warranty before charging me anything. Saved me a bunch of money and headache if dealing with anything. Would definitely recommend them and use them again.
