Tips To Keep Your Air Conditioning Humming When You Need It The Most

June 22, 2011 | Blog

Summer is here in South Texas, and you’re probably already using your air conditioner on a constant basis. Especially in Corpus Christi where the summers are hot and steamy, it’s important to make sure your A/C won’t give out on you right when you need it most.  To keep it running efficiently and for as long as possible, follow these tips:

The simplest thing you can do is to replace your air filters once a month.  It can be easy to forget about but this will prevent dust and other material from accumulating on the filter, inhibiting the air flow.  By changing your filter monthly (or at the frequency recommended by the manufacturer), your air conditioning can work optimally while reducing your energy use.

Make sure and keep things from blocking the outside condensing unit.  Walls, fences, vines, shrubs, and even tall grass can block the airflow and reduce the efficiency of your air conditioner.  Also, make sure there is nothing blocking the air coming out of your outside unit.  A cover, overhang, shrubs, or bushes that block the air coming out of your unit will cause the unit to think it is much hotter outside than it really is.  This will cost you in capacity and efficiency of your system.
You also need to make sure that your drain line is serviced to make sure it is ready for all the water that will be flowing through it throughout the summer.  A drain-blocking up can cause cooling problems and structural damage to your home.

The best thing you can do to keep your air conditioning working year-round is to make sure preventive maintenance is performed on it at least once a year.  The ideal time is in spring, right before you’ll be using it most, but if it has been more than a year since your last check-up, schedule one immediately, no matter what time of year it is.

An HVAC professional will check all the components of your air conditioning to make sure everything is working optimally.  Small problems will be spotted and fixed before they require expensive repairs and temporarily leave you without A/C.  It will also make sure the system is running efficiently so that you are saving as much money as possible.

Great Company

Great company. Contacted my current AC company to check on my warranty before charging me anything. Saved me a bunch of money and headache if dealing with anything. Would definitely recommend them and use them again.
