Seal Your Home For Energy Efficiency And Watch Those Energy Costs Plummet

March 13, 2012 | Blog

A good HVAC system will keep your home cool in the summer and warm in the winter, but if you find your energy costs still running high, you should look for areas where your home might be leaking air. Homeowners often think that having enough insulation in the home will prevent air loss but this is not true. Insulation provides resistance to thermal loss but does nothing to stop airflow.

To keep warm air from leaking into your home in the summer (or escaping in the winter), seal your home for energy efficiency. Add weather-stripping around doors, check for leaks around windows and complete a review of the attic area. Culprits of air loss include plumbing vents, the attic hatch, ceiling fans, recessed can lights, and more.

When you seal your home for energy efficiency, it will save money on your monthly utility bills. The exterior of your home works as an energy envelope to keep conditioned air inside; you need to evaluate where air may be escaping this envelope. When your home is not free of leaks, your HVAC system works harder and runs longer to keep the home comfortable during the winter and summer months. While winters are not extreme in South Texas, mornings and late evenings are often chilly, and when warm air leaks out of your house, your HVAC system kicks on to replace it. A home sealed against leaks won’t have this problem.

Another area where you could be losing air might be your HVAC system’s ducts. If you haven’t had the system inspected in a while, you could be losing money through leaky ducts as well.

Seal your home for energy efficiency and put the energy savings into your pocket instead of in the hands of the utility company. Contact Mathews CCAC Inc., your South Texas HVAC contractor, for an energy assessment to determine if your home costs more in utility expenses than it should. Great Company

Great company. Contacted my current AC company to check on my warranty before charging me anything. Saved me a bunch of money and headache if dealing with anything. Would definitely recommend them and use them again.
