Save More Energy at Home with These Simple Tips

January 13, 2015 | Blog

Making it a goal to save more energy around your home can translate to lower energy bills and in some cases, longer appliance life. It’s possible to use less energy without sacrificing any comfort or making major lifestyle changes. Here are some simple tips on how to save more energy at home:

  • Turn your water heater down to 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Not only will this save energy, it will also make your heater last longer because fewer hard water deposits will form at the bottom. Draining a few quarts of water from the bottom twice a year also cuts down heating costs and prolongs appliance life.
  • Change your HVAC system’s air filters when they’re dirty. Clogged HVAC filters increase energy consumption because they slow the airflow through your entire system. As a result, it’ll take longer to heat your home, while coating HVAC components with dust and reducing system lifetime.
  • Be careful when heating with a heat pump. Raising the temperature more than 1.5 degrees can trigger the supplemental heating coil inside the heat pump, which uses far more energy than the pump itself. If you turn your temperature down at night, consider pairing your heat pump with a recovery thermostat. This thermostat is specially designed to work with heat pumps only. Other kinds of programmable thermostats don’t have the same heat pump compatibility that can achieve the most efficiency from these systems.
  • Choose Energy Star appliances when you need to make an upgrade. Small and large appliances carry these designations and use much less energy than their counterparts without sacrificing performance and comfort.
  • Run your dishwasher or clothes washer only when you have full loads. Both of these appliances use the same amount of energy regardless of load size.

Great company. Contacted my current AC company to check on my warranty before charging me anything. Saved me a bunch of money and headache if dealing with anything. Would definitely recommend them and use them again.
