How to Prepare Your Home for a New HVAC System

September 19, 2017 | Blog

As exciting as it is to look forward to a new heating and cooling system, the new HVAC system installation does require some planning and work ahead of time. Anything you do to make it faster and easier for the HVAC crew will speed the process, restoring comfort and order to your home.

Double check with the contractor to verify that they performed a load calculation

Any reputable contractor will conduct this analysis using Manual J software. It involves a thorough analysis of the energy efficiency of your home, assessing its layout, and interviewing you about your family about your thermal preferences and lifestyle habits.

Going through the sizing process with Manual J is a time-consuming but necessary process to avoid installing a system that’s too large or small.

Evaluate the ductwork

Over time, the ductwork ages, gets dirty and develops leaks. Before you go forward with a new HVAC system installation, the contractor needs to determine its condition and whether it has the right capacity. The ducts may need sealing or repairing, and even cleaning.

Plan for the pets

Find a place to keep your pets out of the way during the installation process. They’ll be safer and less stressed when they’re at a friend’s house for the duration, or confined behind a closed door.

Ready your home and yard

As much as possible, move furniture away from the areas near the air handler indoors and the front or back door. The installation team will move a new air handler into your home, and there should be enough clearance for them to wheel it in without bumping into walls or furniture.

Outdoors, clear all the debris around the condenser area and move any patio furniture and children’s toys well out of the way. Make sure the backyard gate is unlocked prior to their arrival.

Making the arrangements for a new HVAC system installation ahead of time will help the team keep to their schedule and deliver their best performance. To learn more about a quality installation, contact CCAC, Inc., providing trusted HVAC services for Coastal Bend homeowners.

Great company. Contacted my current AC company to check on my warranty before charging me anything. Saved me a bunch of money and headache if dealing with anything. Would definitely recommend them and use them again.
