3 Winter HVAC Concerns

3 Winter HVAC ConcernsWinter in the Corpus Christi area doesn’t get as freezing cold as it does in other parts of the country, but evenings and nights can get chilly. When it’s time to use your heating system this season, watch for common winter HVAC concerns. Knowing what to look for and when to get professional HVAC help is an important part of keeping your home warm this season.

Airflow Problems

If heat is coming out of your vents yet your home doesn’t feel warm enough or if your heating system has to run for long periods of time, this indicates an airflow problem. The most likely culprit of airflow problems is an air filter that hasn’t been changed. Air filter surfaces get clogged up with debris, such as dust, which makes it harder for your furnace or heat pump to work efficiently at heating your home. Replacing a dirty air filter with a clean one should solve this problem. If you keep having airflow trouble, have an HVAC technician check your system.

Thermostat Problems

If your heating system cycles, or comes on and off on a frequent basis, your thermostat could be to blame. Thermostats that have bad wiring or other problems that prevent them from working properly can cause furnaces and heat pumps to run more often than they should. Check your thermostat first if you notice a lot of cycling going on. If you can’t fix your thermostat or if you fix it and cycling continues, have an HVAC technician inspect your equipment.

Heat Loss

If your furnace or heat pump doesn’t come on or if only cool air comes out, this could be a result of several potential problems, such as a broken compressor. Schedule an HVAC inspection to determine what is causing your heating system to either not work or only blow out cool air. Your HVAC equipment might just need a simple fix, or it could need a more complicated repair.
