4 Things You Should Know Before You Replace Your Furnace

4 Things You Should Know Before You Replace Your FurnaceSooner or later, you’ll have to replace the furnace in your home. This can require a significant investment of time and money. Before you decide to replace your furnace instead of repairing it, take into consideration the following four factors.

Furnace age

The average life expectancy for a furnace is around 15 to 20 years. High-quality brands that have been given regular preventive maintenance could last longer. If your furnace is in this age range, a replacement may be a good idea. If you don’t have the original paperwork that came with the furnace, check inside the cabinet to see if there’s any information on the age or installation date. Don’t let age be the only factor you use in making a replacement decision, however. If the furnace still works like it should, you can probably get more service out of it.

Furnace efficiency

Older furnaces typically had lower efficiency ratings. Even so, if you’ve recently noticed unusual spikes in your heating costs, it could mean further efficiency loss. This also means the furnace is more likely to fail when seasonal heating demands increase.

Furnace reliability

Like any mechanical system, furnaces become less reliable as they near the end of their functional lifespan. Is the furnace working properly, or is breaking down more and more frequently? Has it had a major breakdown within the last two years? Furnaces are more likely to have significant breakdowns during the final two years of their lives.

Furnace performance

A furnace that doesn’t perform properly is often a candidate for replacement. Can you rely on the system to produce the amount of heat you want, or are you experiencing inconsistent heating? Is the system producing louder or more frequent noises than usual? Poorly performing furnaces should be replaced.

Great company. Contacted my current AC company to check on my warranty before charging me anything. Saved me a bunch of money and headache if dealing with anything. Would definitely recommend them and use them again.
