Prepare Your HVAC for Summer

May 29, 2018 | Blog

Prepare Your HVAC for SummerDown here in Corpus Christi, we take summer seriously. And that means we know our air conditioners need to be in tiptop shape much sooner than elsewhere in the country. We’re already expecting temperatures in the upper 80s and 90s this month, and it’s only going to get warmer. That means it’s high time to do your summer HVAC prep.

What tasks do you normally do to get ready for the cooling season? If you’re not sure what to do, take a look at these recommendations. Once you put them in action, you’ll be in good shape for the summer ahead.

1. Clear away obstructions, inside and out.

Your vents, registers and outdoor air conditioner condenser need to be free of obstructions so that air can flow freely. Otherwise, the system will not cool properly. Clear away weeds, grass and leaves, as well as any garden tools or furniture that are within two feet of the unit. Cut shrubs away so there’s a 2-foot clear space around the unit. Inside your home, move furniture or drapes that might cover the vents or registers. Clean the vents and grilles if necessary.

2. Check ductwork.

If your ductwork is accessible, have a look at it every year to make sure the segments are connected and there are no holes, cracks or gaps. Breaches in the ducts allow conditioned air to escape and unconditioned air (along with dirt and moisture) to invade your home. If you can’t fix your ducts, ask your HVAC tech to do it for you.

3. Schedule maintenance.

You can probably change your own air filter; if you don’t do it regularly, now is a good time to replace it. A clean filter will make your A/C run more efficiently and save you money. Beyond that, you will need an HVAC tech to check refrigerant, controls, thermostat, wiring, condensate drain, coils and the air handler before you start using the A/C continuously this summer.

Great Company

Great company. Contacted my current AC company to check on my warranty before charging me anything. Saved me a bunch of money and headache if dealing with anything. Would definitely recommend them and use them again.
