Your HVAC Vacation Checklist for Summer

Your HVAC Vacation Checklist for Summer

Summer is fast approaching, and you’re busy planning your vacation. You’ve made arrangements to take care of your pets and plants while you’re gone. But what about your HVAC system? If you don’t see to it, it could waste energy, while you’re not even there to enjoy it. Here’s a basic HVAC vacation checklist to go through before you head out.

Set your programmable thermostat.

It’s important not simply to turn your HVAC system off while you’re away. Leaving it inactive for an extended period allows moisture to build up inside the unit, which can cause damage and keep it from working properly when you return. Instead, set your programmable thermostat to vacation mode. This will keep your home between 75 and 80 degrees, reducing your energy usage while keeping the system active. If you have pets that will be in the house while you’re gone, you might make that 70 to 75 degrees instead, to ensure their comfort

Close the blinds.

Open blinds allow sunlight into your home, warming it up. During Corpus Christi summers, this can make even cooling your home to 80 degrees take more energy than you’d like. By closing your blinds, you can keep the sun out so your home remains at a consistent temperature.

Change your filter.

Your system’s air filter should be changed every three to six months, to keep your home’s air clean and flowing freely. And during HVAC vacation prep is a great time to do it. Not only does it ensure nice, clean air waiting for you when you get home, but having a clean filter also reduces the risk of your system malfunctioning while you’re gone.

Annual maintenance.

Just before your vacation can also be a great time to schedule your annual HVAC maintenance visit. By associating the two events together, it serves as a reminder to get this important task done. Plus, ensuring your system is functioning properly further reduces the risk of it breaking down while you’re away.

Great Company

Great company. Contacted my current AC company to check on my warranty before charging me anything. Saved me a bunch of money and headache if dealing with anything. Would definitely recommend them and use them again.
