How to Identify Trustworthy Online HVAC Reviews

How to Identify Trustworthy Online HVAC ReviewsThe word is out about online reviews. Far too many of them are not authentic, so we have become skeptical about believing the claims. Too much praise, and we figure the target of the reviews paid for the kudos.

In fact, recent studies show most people tend to believe the bad reviews over the good ones. Seems they believe that because there are fewer negative reviews than positive ones, the negatives review are somehow more reliable — but it turns out that isn’t so.

So where does that leave you when you’re trying to assess whether an HVAC company is reputable? And what does reputable mean? Usually a company is considered reputable if they do the following:

    • Charges a fair price for goods and services.
    • Completes the work in a timely fashion.
    • Employs competent, certified HVAC technicians.

Can you believe the good (or bad) reviews, or are you likely to think that online HVAC reviews are skewed and unreliable?

Tips for Evaluating Online Reviews

1. Stick with reliable websites like Yelp or Better Business Bureau. These entities are experienced at sussing out which reviews are posted by a merchant’s friends, and will remove them.

2. Check out the dates. If most of the reviews originated or were posted around the same date, then they were likely put up at the request of the merchant.

3. Avoid reviews that sound like marketing materials. These will usually repeat the client’s name several times, and may be sketchy on details of what went right (or wrong), but will be loaded with superlatives and marketing catch phrases.

4. Look for details. Real reviews will refer to the kind of problem the reviewer had, and discuss how it was solved or not solved. They might even mention certain individuals who were key in solving the issue.

5. Avoid reviews that criticize a company and try to direct you to a competitor. It’s unlikely you can trust a company that indulges in this kind of behavior.
