Heating Season is Right Around the Corner: How to Prepare Your Home

transitioning seasonsCorpus Christy’s weather is hot year-round but it still gets quite cold during winter. So with the advent of autumn, it is best to prepare for the transitioning seasons by doing some basic maintenance and preparations on your Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system.

However, transitioning your HVAC system from hot weather functions to the heating season is not as simple as turning your A/C off. You need to ease both your A/C system and your home into fall and winter.

Here are some basic preparation tips:

Always inspect your air filters during the transitioning seasons (or on a three-month basis) and replace them when necessary. This helps your A/C system work properly and reduces your utility bills. Cleaning your air filters will also reduce indoor contaminants and allergens. It’s best to have spare standard filters stored away. You can also invest in electronic air cleaners if you are concerned about allergies.

As the weather starts to mellow out, you should turn your A/C unit to a lower setting (or turn it off at night). In turn, open your windows to air out your home and use ceiling fans if you have them. This allows you to save money by using your A/C unit less.

Inspect your ventilation system. Your home’s ductwork is a critical component of indoor airflow and air quality. When not cleaned properly, the ventilation system can circulate dust and other pollutants throughout your home. Also, ensure that your home is airtight by checking for cracks, holes, and other issues that could lead to loss of air.

Schedule Maintenance

Having your HVAC system professionally inspected during the transitioning seasons is the best way to prepare for the heating season. Whether you have a brand new system or an older unit, regular care increases your unit’s lifespan and keeps it working efficiently and worry-free.
