Fall Checklist: HVAC Maintenance

Fall Checklist: HVAC MaintenanceWhen fall hits, it’s time to think about keeping your home in good, working order, which includes giving your HVAC system a little TLC. By performing a bit of preventive maintenance on your HVAC system during the fall, you will be able to move into winter with confidence.

Here are some fall HVAC maintenance tips to consider.

Replace or Clean the Filters

Every fall and spring, you need to replace or clean your air filters, depending on the design. Air filters gather the grit and grime in your air, and when they are filled they prevent the system from running efficiently. Fresh air filters will help your air stay cleaner and your system to run with less effort, helping save on energy costs.

Readjust the Thermostat

Now that the months that require you to rely strongly on your air conditioning are over, it’s time to reset your thermostat to adjust for the cooler temperatures. Make sure that you are setting the temperature so that the heating system uses less energy during the hours when you are gone or when you are sleeping. If you do not have a programmable thermostat, consider having one installed to make it easier to make these changes automatic.

Schedule an HVAC Inspection

Fall is an excellent time to schedule an annual HVAC inspection from a professional. With this annual service and inspection, an HVAC technician will come to your home and check all of the important components of your heating and cooling systems, ensuring that it is working as efficiently as possible for the coming cool season. The technician will also clean and optimize the system so it runs at its best.
