Warming Up Cold Floors in Winter

Warming Up Cold Floors in WinterAlthough winters in the Corpus Christi area aren’t filled with ice and snow, it can still get cold enough to affect your home. Walking on cold floors, especially when you first get up in the morning, can make winter an unpleasant experience. Fortunately, there are ways to warm up the floors in your home, so you can stay comfortable.

Check Your Vents and Registers

In some cases, cold floors happen due to having a vent or registered in the room closed. Check all of the vents and registers in your home to make sure that they’re open. If you still have floors that feel cold, consider other ways of heating them up.

Duct-Booster Fans

These fans go inside ducts or registers to blow more heated air to certain areas. This solution works for forced-air heating systems. If you only have a cold floor in one room or one area of your home, duct-booster fans can provide a simple and effective way to warm it up. These fans work best when you have vents that are located on the wall near your floor rather than up near the ceiling.

Portable Heaters

Portable space heaters can warm up floors when they’re positioned right. However, these heaters will only heat up part of your floor instead of warming up all of it. To warm up your whole floor, you would need to move the heater around or use more than one.

Radiant Floor Heating

Having a radiant floor heating system installed means you don’t have to deal with stepping down onto or walking on a cold floor in your home anymore. These heating systems go right under floors and generate heat to warm the surface. Some of these systems use electricity for generating heat, while others use heated water to create warmth. Keep in mind that a radiant floor heating system can also help keep an entire room warmer, since hot air rises.
